Emre Belözoğlu is reportedly just one step away from returning to Fenerbahçe just six months after joining Atlético Madrid as a free agent last summer, according to Turkish television channel 'NTV Sports'.
The midfielder has not taken well to life at the Vicente Calderón and Atlético have given him the green light to return to his former club, despite the fact that he is under contract for another 18 months.
Emre has played a total of just 267 minutes - spread over six games - with 'Los Rojiblancos' plus a handful of appearances in the Copa del Rey and the Europe League.
His last appearance for the club was during Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao at San Mamés, a game in which he did not perform well.
He has been travelling back and forth to Istanbul regularly since he signed for Atleti and has kept in contact with directors at Fenerbahçe, which has facilitated the deal. He will sign a contract for the rest of this season and two more, while Atlético will be relieved of paying his wages.
The player's departure means that Diego Simeone is likely to give youngster Saúl a greater role in Atlético's first team.
