Emiliano Insúa has passed his medical with Atlético Madrid and will be presented as the club's first signing of the January transfer window on Wednesday afternoon.
The Argentine left-back joins 'Los Colchoneros' from Sporting Clube de Portugal for 3.5 million euros and on passing his medical told the press he was ready to take his place in his new team's starting line-up on Sunday for the visit of Real Betis.
"The coach will have to decide whether I play or not but I am really excited about playing and I want to start training as soon as possible. I played a game for Sporting two weeks ago and I am ready to start playing whenever the coach wants.
The 24-year old also revealed how he learnt that Atlético Madrid were interested in signing him.
"Caminero [Atlético's sporting director] called me directly and I couldn't believe it. I've wanted to play here since I was a boy, it's a dream for any footballer to be able to play for this team. I didn't have to even thinking about and I decided there and then to negotiate with Atlético Madrid."
And the Argentine said he was looking forward to working with compatriot Diego Simeone: "He is a great coach, he was a brilliant player and now he's proving to everyone how good he is as a coach. I'm really excited that he's going to be my coach, I want to start learning under him as soon as possible."
