"If Real Madrid have signed me, it's because they have faith in me", said a relaxed Diego López during his presentation as Real Madrid's latest recruit. Director of Sport Miguel Pardeza joined the goalkeeper in Monday's press conference, and before introducing the player to the media, said, "He has come here to help the team, the club and I wish him the best luck in the world".
Coming home: "It's a huge pleasure for me to return to my club. Everything seems the same as when I left, not much has changed in those five or six years in terms of the facilities and employees. Now I am fully back in the day to day routine".
The operation: "I didn't have any contact with Real Madrid. My agent handled the negotiations and as soon as I heard about it, I was in no doubt at all that I wanted the operation to go through. It was a pity that I had to leave here all those years ago and coming back represents a great opportunity. I plan to work as hard as I can and give the best of myself to help my team mates".
Three and a half year contract: "I am not thinking about taking Casillas' place in the team - just about Wednesday's game, working day by day and gaining as many minutes as I can. Right now, there are two goalkeepers and it's up to us to resolve this situation".
A place in the starting XI: "I've come here to give everything I've got. If Real Madrid have brought me back, it must be for a reason. I am in conditions to play and I have confidence in my own abilities. I would love to always play but my intention is train had and compete for a place and that is what will benefit the team".
Responsibility: "I have played many games in the Liga BBVA and in Europe and I have played at international level. I know what my virtues are as a player and if Madrid signed me, it must be because they have faith in me".
Lack of respect for Adán: "When the coach makes changes to the side you have to respect it. Iker has earned everything he has achieved but in football, things can change from one day to the next".
Casillas: "I have a good relationship with him but I can't comment on the issue of him losing his place in the side because I wasn't here when that happened".
Youth team players: "Yes, this club does value its youth team players".
Sevilla: "I don't know why I didn't get regular minutes there. But that's in the past now. I am just really happy that I am here".
Víctor Valdés: "He has made a personal decision and he has given the club time to find a replacement. It's something which happens at every club. He is a great professional and I am sure that he will do his job just as well until his contract expires".
