Michu signs new contract with Swansea until 2016

Spanish forward Miguel Pérez Cuesta, known as Michu, has signed a new four-year contract with Swansea that will keep him at the Welsh club until 2016.

The player has already expressed his delight at the move and wrote on his Twitter account: "I'm very happy with my new contract. Thanks to everybody."

Michu, who arrived at Swansea last summer from Rayo Vallecano for just 2.5 million euros, has been one of the revelations of the Premier League this season, and is the third top scorer in the league, with 13 goals, plus three goals in cup competitions.

"It was an easy decision for me,'' Michu told Swansea's official website.

"I am living a dream here at Swansea. I'm probably enjoying my football more than ever. It's easy to play with this team and tonight I have the chance to reach the first final of my career.

"I'm really happy here in the city with the people, the club and the fans. Everyone has been so nice to me since I arrived. I think the club are happy with me because they have given me a new contract. I am certainly happy with the club.'

"I'm happy here. I've read and listened to all the speculation, but it doesn't interest me, and that's why I've signed a new contract. I'm enjoying myself too much because the team always tries to play football. All I think about is the next game and helping Swansea be successful. This is my life.''

Tonight Swansea face Chelsea at the Liberty stadium in the second leg of the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup.

The Swans have a 2-0 lead from the first leg at Stamford Bridge and will book themselves a place in the final at Wembley if they can avoid defeat by two or more goals.
