Valencia midfielder David Albelda has insinuated that Ángel Di María's comments about referees during the week may have influenced referee Muñiz Fernández's treatment of Real Madrid during their Copa del Rey clash with 'Los Ché' on Tuesday.
The day before the game, the Argentine forward declared in a press conference: "You all know that referees have made confusing decisions towards Madrid. Our players get sent off for the stupidest of reasons. And I don't think these decisions are being made by mistake."
Following his side's 2-0 defeat to Madrid at the Bernabéu on Tuesday night, in which Valencia felt they were on the wrong end of some dubious refereeing decisions, Albelda pointed to Di María's comments in a message he wrote on Twitter.
"Madrid's best player was Di María during the week", wrote Albelda after the game, in reference to the Argentine's press conference.
"I'm sorry, but I like to say what I think. Am I a cry baby? People can think what they want".
Roberto Soldado was dubiously ruled offside on three occasions during the game and Valencia were denied a penalty when Ricardo Carvalho shoved Jonas in the box.
