Readers of UEFA.com were asked to name their team of 2012, and Real Madrid and Barcelona are well represented in the results.
Four players each from the two biggest clubs in Spain made it into the team: Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Mesut Özil and Cristiano Ronaldo from Madrid, and Gerard Piqué, Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta and Leo Messi from Barcelona. The three remaining players in the chosen XI that do not play in Spain were Bayern Munich right back Philip Lahm, Juventus playmaker Andrea Pirlo and Paris Saint-Germain centre-half Thiago Silva.
5.3 million readers cast their vote, a 20% increase from last year.
Ronaldo and Casillas have now been named in the team for six years in a row, Ramos was named in the XI again for the first time in four years while Özil made his first appearance.
