Málaga coach Manuel Pellegrini believes his team have as good a chance of beating Barcelona on Sunday at La Rosaleda as they would were they facing any other team.
The Chilean explained in his pre-match press conference that "in football there is no probability, things change all the time, that's why people always bet so much money on football."
"We have to go out there with the mentality that Barcelona can lose and so it's our obligation to play a great game in every aspect. It's crucial that we play as well as we can, that the spectators see Málaga at their best. If that's not enough to beat a great Barcelona side, then we'll be able to live with that. But I will be unhappy if Barcelona put in an average performance and beat us because we played badly."
Barça and Málaga have also been drawn together in the quarter finals of the Copa del Rey, which means the two teams will face each other three times in the next two weeks.
Pellegrini believes his side can knock Barcelona out of the competition, and said his team "are in the right frame of mind and are very motivated" for the upcoming games against Tito Vilanova's side. He also called both sides "two of the best teams in the league when it comes to using the ball".
And the Málaga coach stressed that Leo Messi was a worthy winner of the Ballon d'Or: "Every day he shows why he is the Ballon d'Or". However, he also emphasised the importance of Xavi Hernández.
"We know that Messi scores a tremendous amount of goals but the team's philosophy comes from Xavi. I said that when I arrived in Spain in 2004 and I still believe it, but we can't forget about Iniesta, Pedro, Piqué or Puyol, it's very difficult to choose the best player, but the player that defines their philosophy is Xavi, he makes the difference."
