Augusto César Lendoiro has sacked José Luis Oltra as coach of Deportivo de La Coruña, who currently prop up the Liga table with 12 points. The man from Valencia will say goodbye to the players tomorrow in the team's first training session after the Christmas break.
The president gave a second press conference at 22.45 this evening to confirm that Oltra's substitute will be Domingos Paciencia, who has been without a team since he was sacked by Sporting Lisbon in February. He will be presented tomorrow, 31 December at 13.30.
"It's a decision that didn't come today, it was taken before the assembly following the defeat against Espanyol (on the 20th December)", said the president in the press conference which saw the move announced.
"The situation became irreversible. We're not fans of changing the coach, but a shake up was needed that had to come from this, because you don't have other options to make changes in the team", explained Lendoiro.
Otra arrived at Deportivo during the 2011/12 season, to help the team bounce back from relegation. He achieved that goal with a record points total and record number of wins in the Liga Adelante, but Depor's return to the top flight hasn't gone as hoped.
The team from Galicia are rock bottom of La Liga BBVA with only 12 points from 17 matches, although they're still within reach of safety.
