Australian Open director Craig Tiley was clearly disappointed that Rafa Nadal had to pull out of the tournament, which was confirmed by the Spaniard only a few days ago. Tiley believes Nadal's absence is a blow to the tournament and is convinced that he will be sorely missed on the courts at Melbourne Park.
"It's completely understandable and we feel disappointed for him," Tiley said on the tournament's website. "Without any match practice and sufficient lead-up time it makes it practically impossible for him to get his body ready."
"We just hope he gets better quickly and we see him back on the tour as soon as possible. Tennis fans across the world have been missing him and so have the organisers of the Australian open, both him and his team," he added.
