Madrid v Man Utd, the most expensive game of the season

Watching a game in the last 16 of the Champions League is costing more and more every year - in fact, a six years ago it was a jaw-dropping three times cheaper. The clash between Real Madrid and Manchester United on 13 February will set fans back between 70 and 235 euros, with tickets due to go on sale from 15 January.

Real Madrid's season ticket holders (65,000) will be able buy tickets from 3 January and will pay between 49 and 165 euros. From 10 January, non-season ticket holding members (30,000) will have their turn, while Madridista card holders (600,000) will be able to pick up tickets from 14 January. It is going to be the most expensive game of the season and Real Madrid run the risk of repeating what happened against Borussia Dortmund. The German fans were allocated 8,000 seats by the Bernabéu; 3,200 of those were acquired through UEFA as tickets sold to visiting fans (5% of the capacity) while the rest were bought on the Internet because there were still 10,000 seats left for the general public. In contrast, Borussia Dortmund sold their cheapest ticket at 12.50 euros and the most expensive at 60. Last season watching Madrid play against CSKA Moscow in the last 16 cost between 60 and 220 euros, while the season before the game against Lyon cost between 48 and 235. In the 2009-10 season (also against the French side) it ranged from 50 to 200, in 2008-09, against Liverpool, from 30 to 175, and in 2007-08 against Roma from 25 to 150 euros...
