The managing director of VOS Marketing, the company which represents Barcelona striker David Villa, spoke to the press on the player's future on Wednesday. Víctor Oñate observed that the Asturian is under contract at the Catalan outfit and that his future "is in the hands of Barcelona".
The Spain star, whose current deal at Barça runs until 2014, has seen little football under the stewardship of coach Tito Vilanova. Since losing his place in the 'azulgrana' attack following a serious injury at the World Club Cup in 2011, 'El Guaje' has been condemned to a bit-part role at the Camp Nou.
In the British press, the situation has seen the player heavily linked to possible moves to Premier League sides such as Chelsea and Arsenal. However, it seems unlikely that Barcelona will let go of a player whose potential impact over the course of a long season remains significant.
"There is always speculation about David because he is a great forward, but his future is in the hands of Barcelona," Oñate told Sky Sports. "They have a contract and it is important to always respect such documents."
