Rafael Nadal has accelerated his pre-season training in preparation for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi.
It will be the Spaniard's first tennis tournament in six months after a knee injury meant he had to miss the Olympic Games, the US Open and the Davis Cup,
His last game was the defeat to Lukas Rosol in the second round of Wimbledon on 28 June.
Nadal gave an interview to 'Canal +' which will be broadcast in full on Friday night, and spoke about his level of fitness and short term aims.
He revealed that he has still not fully recovered from his knee injury, and although he will compete in Abu Dhabi and the Australian Open, he does not expect to return to his best form until later in the year.
"I feel a bit uneasy, but that's normal. My knee is better but it's still not perfect. I'm prepared to accept that my knee won't react well at first," he said.
"My aim is to recover my form for the tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami, and then be in perfect condition for the Montecarlo Masters."
