Tito Vilanova left the Intensive Care Unit of the Vall d'Hebron hospital in Barcelona on Friday morning, barely a day after undergoing surgery on the parotid gland after a cancerous tumour was detected.
It is believed the Barcelona coach will remain in hospital for at least three or four days and he will receive chemotherapy and radiotherapy immediately, lasting for at least six weeks.
He will be able to receive visitors later today.
On Thursday afternoon Barcelona announced the operation "had gone ahead according to schedule".
Vilanova underwent the same operation 13 months ago.
Assistant coach Jordi Roura will take charge of Barcelona's league game with Real Valladolid on Saturday.
