UEFA's general secretary Gianni Infantino began the draw for the Champions League second round on Thursday with a message of support for Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova, who was diagnosed with cancer on Wednesday.
"Tito, we are all here for you," said Infantino, in English and in Catalan in his speech before the draw in Nyon, Switzerland.
Vilanova went into hospital on Thursday morning in order to receive an operation on a tumour that was discovered on the parotid gland. Over a year ago he had a tumour removed from the same area.
The coach will be unable to take charge of the team immediately after the operation, and will follow a programme of radiotherapy and chemotherapy for six weeks.
His assistant coach, Jordi Roura, will take charge of the team while Vilanova recovers.
