Karim Benzema, Real Madrid's striker, gave an interview to the magazine 'France Football' to coincide with him being named French Footballer of 2012. In the interview Benzema states that everyone at Real Madrid, having won the League last year, is now focused on the great prize of the 'Décima' the tenth European cup.
"I'm at Madrid to win everything! The Champions League is a big part of it. Here, everyone wants to win the 'Décima', and I want to be part of the team that achieves it", he said.
He also said he hasn't considered changing teams in spite of rumours about PSG's interest in him. "I don't know anything about that. I'm happy at Real Madrid, I want to be at this club. It's the biggest club in the world and our story together isn't over", said the striker.
As to the Ballon d'Or, Benzema said that "we are all behind Cristiano" and added that "with six players out of the 23 nominations Real Madrid has beaten every other club represented".
Benzema also admitted to dreaming of winning the individual trophy one day: "Every player thinks about that title. To be on the list of candidates is a little bit like being on the list of the best 23 players in the world. So that's very satisfying. But I still need to work to be amongst the three finalists, and maybe to win it one day. My goal is to be closer every year".
The Real Madrid player also talked about his fellow country man Abidal, who he said had "always been there for him". "Just as I have been for him. We often send text messages and we call each other. He's from the Lyon clan, and there's a strong bond between us. When I arrived at Lyon, as a 17 year old, Eric took me under his wing, and since then we've been very close".
