Real Madrid's president Florentino Pérez delivered an emphatic message in a presentation for a club-sponsored charity campaign, called "No child without a toy." "You should never give up", said Florentino, "not in sport, or in life, or in group challenges." A statement that was applicable to the important collective action, as well as Real Madrid's current situation.
José Mourinho's team drew at home against Espanyol yesterday, Sunday, and after the game the Portuguese affirmed that the Liga "is practically impossible." That's a message that clashes directly with the one given by the club president in the VIP box at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Madrid's social responsibilities
The charity presentation was attended by Emilio Butragueño, Real Madrid's director of institutional relations, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaká and Pepe from the football squad and Sergio Llull and Rudy Fernández from the basketball squad. Ignacio González, Madrid regional premier, was also present.
"We should channel Madrid's strength not only towards sporting objectives", said Florentino Pérez in his speech. "The passion for sport puts Real Madrid in a good place to help make the world more united. Madrid remains loyal to its commitment to those who have less. It's an emotional campaign, especially at these times. We're going to give absolutely everything to make sure that no child goes without a toy this Christmas", declared the president.
