'World Soccer' magazine readers have named Leo Messi as the best player in the world for 2012.
The Barcelona forward won almost half of the total votes, finishing ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Andrés Iniesta.
It is the third time Messi has won the magazine's prize, drawing level with former Madrid and Barça forward Ronaldo as the player to have won the award the most times.
Messi was also included in the team of the year, alongside Barça team-mates Jordi Alba, Xavi Hernández and Iniesta. The other seven players to make the team were Iker Casillas, Philip Lahm, Sergio Ramos, Vincent Kompany, Andrea Pirlo, Radamel Falcao and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque, meanwhile, was chosen as the best coach of the year, with 'La Roja' also named as the best team of the year thanks to winning the European Championship in Poland and Ukraine.
