Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelo Bielsa had no complaints after his side drew 1-1 with Segunda B side Eibar and were knocked out of the Copa del Rey at the first hurdle.
It is the first time Athetic have lost to a Segunda B side in 20 years. They reached the final of the Copa del Rey last season and only Barcelona have won the competition more times than the Basques.
"We deserved to go out. I cannot explain how we have got in this situation. I take full responsibility for this, but it is impossible to explain," said the Argentine.
"We had to qualify for the next round, especially after the result from the first leg (0-0) and against a team from a lower league. We cannot justify this, I normally try and explain defeats, this is very irritating, even for me.
"In the first half we defended well but did not attack much, it was the opposite in the second half. The substitutions I made were not important, we cannot justify a club of our size being knocked out by a lower league team."
