Denis Cheryshev was the biggest surprise in Real Madrid's 20-man squad which travelled to Manchester ahead of the Champions League clash against Manchester City on Wednesday.
The Russian, who has never played for the Madrid first team, travelled in place of Michael Essien, who has been unable to train this week due to injury.
Cheryshev made his debut for the Russian national side last week, when he was brought on as a substitute in a friendly with the USA.
Gonzalo Higuaín, still recovering from a hamstring injury, did not make the trip, nor did Álvaro Morata, who has been experiencing muscular problems since he came on for Madrid against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday night.
The full squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas, Antonio Adán, Jesús Fernández
Defenders: Rafael Varane, Álvaro Arbeloa, Raúl Albiol, Fabio Coentrão, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Nacho.
Midfielders: Sami Khedira, Kaká, Xabi Alonso, Luka Modric, Ángel Di María, José Callejón, Mesut Özil, Denis Cheryshev.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema.
