Portugal coach Paulo Bento has included Real Madrid players Pepe and Cristiano Ronaldo in his squad for his side's friendly against Gabon on Wednesday, but has left out the full-back Fabio Coentrao.
Another player from La Liga to miss out is Málaga's Eliseu, despite his outstanding performances in the league and the Champions League.
The most notable players to have been called up are Atlético Madrid full back Silvio and Olympiakos midfielder Paulo Machado, while Valencia's Ricardo Costa and Besiktas centre-forward Hugo Almeida have been recalled to the squad.
The friendly with Gabón is Portugal's last game before their crucial World Cup qualifiers against Israel and Azerbaijan, which are both must-win games after losing to Russia in Moscow and unexpectedly drawing with Northern Ireland in Portugal.
