"We trust our academy players, they know how the team works"

The Europa League holders require just a point in Portugal to qualify for the last 32 of the competition, but Simeone ruled out settling for a draw. "We always go out to win," he said.

"We trust our academy players, they know how the team works"

Adrián is getting better in every game and in this game, due to the absence of Falcao and Diego Costa, he could be Atlético's reference point

Adrián can play in a number of positions. He's not a classic goalscorer, although he can score goals. He will be one of our most attacking players against Académica. He doesn't have to score goals, but I hope he can find the net. I'm very happy with how he is developing.

There are a number of academy players in the squad list, is this proof that you trust the academy players?

We are using some of our youngsters and they know how the team works. All they can do is try and make the most of the minutes they get to play. These lads are developing well and I hope they can fill the expectations we have of them.

Are you hoping to wrap up qualification for the next round this Thursday?

Why try not to think too much about the future. We know we have the opportunity to play a great game and seal our place in the next round and that's what we'll try and do. We know we'll be up against a tough and quick team who have a huge week ahead, as they face Porto after us. But we'll have to play our brand of football if we are to get what we want from the game.

In the last few minutes of the tie at the Calderón, Académica caused Atleti a few problems.

I was expecting that, I expected them to be strong in the final 20 minutes because they have fast players, and are strong from set pieces. I expect they'll make a strong start to the game on Thursday.

Just a point on Thursday would be enough for Atleti to qualify

We always go out to win, I never go looking for a draw.
