Atlético Madrid's goalkeeper Thibault Courtois spoke ahead of Friday's European Super Cup final that his team is to contest with Chelsea in Monaco. Courtois is to face the team that loaned him to the 'rojiblancos', something that will make for "a special match."
"It's a very special match for me as I'm playing against my club. But I'm playing at Athlético and against Chelsea, and I want to win the title", said the young player firmly.
The 20-year-old Belgian displays great maturity despite his youth, and is really happy about his time at the Spanish capital. "I had to adapt to the rhythm of life here, which is faster. It was quite dangerous during the first five or six weeks. I had to adapt to the positions of the players", he said in a statement to UEFA.com, picked up by Europa Press.
Courtois says he's "happy to be in Madrid for another year." "Now I have more experience and I'm better in many aspects, like close-range shots and in my reflexes. My reflexes with my hands are better than one or two years ago", stated the keeper.
Regarding the Atlético side that will try to overcome Chelsea on Friday, Courtois warns that they're "a very competitive team with three or four new players." "We have the team to finish among the top four in Spain. In the Europa League and the Copa del Rey it's tougher. A bit of bad luck and you're out. But if we play like last season, we can get to the final", he said.
