The Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone become the latest person involved with Atlético Madrid to speak out against the Spanish league's organisation of fixtures for the opening two weekends of season 2012/13.
The announcement caused a stir for two reasons: firstly because several games will start at 23:00, and secondly because the fixtures leave 'los colchoneros' with just three days rest between their second league game, at home to Athletic Bilbao on 27 August, and the European Supercup match with Chelsea on 31 August.
Simeone said: "Whoever organised these kick-off times is a joker. When I opened the newspaper and read that we'd be playing matches at 23:00 I started laughing."
Atlético Madrid's president Enrique Cerezo today expressed his outrage at the kick-off times, while the club's peñas (supporters clubs) have also released a statement condemning the decision.
