"It's a silly idea; I've never compared myself to Messi. I play where the boss asks me to and that's it. He's a very different player to me and he's the best player in the history of football. I don't imagine anything here. I just try to help the team. It's a position I like and nothing more. It's not expected at any time that I'm going to beat four players and score a goal for the side like Messi does. People expect me to do what I can and that's it" said Cesc Fabregas about the position he's playing for Spain at the moment, similar to that played by the Argentina and Barcelona man.
About the death of Miki Roqué, the Catalan described it as "very painful news for everybody." "I didn't know him personally but he had been at the Barça B training ground for recuperation and Puyol always spoke well of him; he was a fantastic guy", Cesc said.
If we wanted to win before this, the loss of two people from the world of football should be an extra motivation, because it's one of the injustices of life. A boy of my age; and considering everything that can happen to us in life, it's a tragedy. I'd like to send my condolences to the family" he added.
Cesc was also asked about the disappointment of the travelling Spanish fans in the stadium who were only met briefly by Casillas.
"Maybe we could have shown a bit more appreciation and spent time with the supporters; sometimes we feel the pressure and we just want to celebrate amongst ourselves. Yes it's true we could have done more for these people that are making a big effort to be here. We're sorry and it won't happen again", he said.
Regarding comparisons between the styles of Portugal and Real Madrid, Fábregas explained: "They play a system a bit different to Madrid, Xabi will know better. One of their strong points is the counter-attack, but not only that. Nani and Cristiano are two weapons. If I was the coach and I had these two players I'd play the same. We have a very good defence and I'm sure that we can all defend and attack together."
Finally, the Barça player shared his thoughts on the other semi-final between Italy and Germany. "It's very even; it'll be a very competitive semi-final. Germany are a team I like a lot; they can pass, go on the counter, they have it all, they're a very strong side. Italy has different players, like Pirlo or Balotelli. It's going to be an exciting match and we hope to go through and face the best of those two teams", he concluded.
